SARASOTA, Fla. -- Baltimore Orioles starting pitcher Kevin Gausman and Detroit Tigers third baseman Jeimer Candelario both left Monday's game after being hurt in a collision in the second inning.
While the crowd was fixated on a close play at the plate, the two players collided just a few feet away. Gausman was running to back up the throw; Candelario was trying to position himself to aid Tigers baserunner Jason Krizan.
Krizan slid home safely, but attention quickly turned to Gausman, who was seated on the ground and appeared to have a bruise or laceration on the left side of his face.
