Jeimer Candelario a bright spot for Detroit Tigers in loss to Indians

Free Press sports writers Anthony Fenech and George Sipple give their thoughts on the first few games of the Detroti Tigers' 2018 season from Comerica Park.

CLEVELAND — The Candy Man didn’t crumble.

Third baseman Jeimer Candelario stayed in the game after being hit in the right knee by a pitch in the third inning. He finished with three doubles in the Detroit Tigers’ 2-1 loss to the Cleveland Indians at Progressive Field on Tuesday night.

The Tigers are in a rebuilding mode and it was important to see how players like Candelario, Victor Reyes and left-handed starter Matthew Boyd stayed even keel while facing the Indians, a team that is favored to win the American League’s Central Division.
