Victor Martinez was back inside the Detroit Tigers clubhouse this afternoon, sitting in a chair in front of his locker, wearing a heart monitor for one last day and speaking with a newfound appreciation for his life.
He spoke about the irregular heartbeat that forced him to the 10-day disabled list, the family history that scared him the most, and how it felt to be so close to returning to the field.
“You appreciate your life more,” Martinez said. “And you know what? You have to enjoy life every day, day-by-day, and you just never know. I always think that way and just trying to live my life and make the most out of it and that’s it.
