DETROIT -- Pinch-hitter Brandon Guyer clobbered a three-run home run as the Cleveland Indians came from behind to beat the Detroit Tigers 8-3 in the series opener Friday night at Comerica Park.
The Indians (56-46) have all but clinched the American League Central and are 13.5 games ahead of the third-place Tigers (44-61).
Tigers reliever Joe Jimenez gave up two singles and a walk in the eighth inning before being lifted for lefty specialist Daniel Stumpf. The Indians countered with Guyer, a platoon player who can't hit righties but has built a career on hitting southpaws. He hit Stumpf's 1-2 fastball into the left field seats to break open the game.
