If the second half of the Detroit Tigers 2019 season is Harold Castro’s MLB audition, he may be playing himself from an ensemble into a lead role.
The 25-year-old rookie is a utilityman with a consistent swing. Entering Saturday, Castro has 41 hits in 130 at-bats for a .315 batting average, with 10 extra-base hits and 15 RBIs.
Castro has played every defensive position except pitcher and catcher. He has played 21 games at second base, his natural position, but has adjusted to a utility role in recent weeks. Many of the Tigers are in a similar position, such as Niko Goodrum and Brandon Dixon.
