NEW YORK — By the time the 2021 season ended, Detroit Tigers left-hander Tarik Skubal, now the team's best starting pitcher, had almost broke the record for most home runs allowed in a rookie season in MLB history.
Skubal gave up 35 homers in 149u2153 innings, one less than Toronto Blue Jays left-hander Yusei Kikuchi's 36 homers allowed in his 2019 campaign with the Seattle Mariners.
In 2022, Skubal has allowed two homers in 58u2154 innings.
"Just being less predictable and stop throwing as many fastballs in fastball counts," Skubal said. "That's why the slider and the changeup have been big pitches for me, just to get back in counts that way.
