Pitcher Jack Morris and shortstop Alan Trammell became the first players from the Detroit Tigers 1984 World Series championship team to earn election to the Hall of Fame when they were voted in Sunday by the Modern Era Committee. Neither garnered the required 75 percent of the votes needed for election during the 15 years they appeared on the Baseball Writers Association of America ballot.
Morris received 14 votes from the 16-member committee while Trammell got 13. They'll be inducted into the Hall of Fame July 29 in Cooperstown, N.Y. The Tigers plan to retire Trammell's No.
