After he walked in from the dugout and into his manager’s office — where general manager Al Avila joined him to deliver some good news — Shane Greene headed into the cafeteria inside the Detroit Tigers’ clubhouse.

Greene, the Tigers’ right-handed closer, had just been informed by Ron Gardenhire and Avila that he had made the AL All-Star team. But Greene, never one to toot his own horn, had more pressing business: His best friend in the bullpen, righty Joe Jimenez, was shaken up.
