As if Max Scherzer needed anything else to motivate him, here came Miguel Cabrera.
In the latest homecoming by a former Tiger and likely future Hall of Famer, Scherzer was warming up when he saw Cabrera come out of the Tigers dugout and into the on-deck circle as a pinch-hitter in the bottom of the eighth inning.
After coughing up a one-run lead on a solo home run to Brandon Dixon in the bottom of the seventh, Scherzer — arguably the best pitcher in baseball — had a one-run lead again.
