Henning: Tigers’ bullpen just needs to be competent

Detroit — As much as you’re allowed to bank on a baseball game’s outcome, Sunday’s show at Comerica Park should have been in the home fans’ hip pocket.

What an afternoon in Detroit for early April. Warm (66 degrees at first pitch). Lots of sun. Nice crowd (33,662) for a Tigers-Red Sox duel. With two appealing pitchers at work: old Tigers friend Rick Porcello for the Red Sox, and fan enchanter Daniel Norris chucking for Detroit.

There were a couple of lead changes before Norris settled and the Tigers scraped up a go-ahead run in the seventh when Nick Castellanos — who has been swinging dynamite for a bat — launched a bomb that dropped into the left-center field seats.
