Imagine that Tuesday’s opening act against the White Sox becomes a script for the 2017 Tigers.
They get solid work into the seventh inning from a starting pitcher, who in this case was Justin Verlander and whose artistry, face it, won’t always be as easy for mortal pitchers to match on a day when Verlander and the Tigers beat the White Sox, 6-3, at the newly crowned Guaranteed Rate Field.
Say the Tigers get six hits, as they got Tuesday. But three of those hits are home runs, which is the brand of power you often can expect from a Detroit lineup that has its share of long-distance sluggers.
