Boston — Manager AJ Hinch doesn’t typically make a mound visit unless he’s changing pitchers. Which made his visit to starter Alex Faedo in the fourth inning of the Tigers’ 5-2 loss to the Red Sox at Fenway Park Monday curious.
There was nobody warming in the bullpen.
Hinch’s mission became crystal clear. The Red Sox had already scored a run and for the second time in the game, Faedo had ignored the runners on base, allowing them to steal second and third without a throw. And, with two outs, Faedo had fallen behind in the count to the dangerous Rafael Devers.
