Greene exits with mild nerve inflammation

ST. LOUIS -- Shane Greene appeared to be picking up where he left off in his last start, before an injury prematurely ended the Tigers starter's night against the Cardinals on Friday.

Greene left the game after five innings with mild ulnar neuritis, which is inflammation of the ulnar nerve in the arm. The team said he would be re-evaluated Saturday.

Greene had held the Cardinals scoreless, while stranding eight as St. Louis had at least one base runner in each inning.

Twice, Greene was able to wiggle out of trouble by using the National League's rules to his advantage.
