Joe Davis had the letter written, tucked into his pocket as he walked with his dad through the streets of Wrigleyville on a summer day in 2008.
The letter was addressed to Cubs television broadcaster Len Kasper, to whom Davis grew up listening on WGN broadcasts in Lansing.
Davis, a college junior then, introduced himself in the letter and asked for advice.
But as he approached the Wrigley Field press box attendant, he realized the letter was gone. Hours later, on the drive back home to Michigan, he received a call.
What seemed like a bad break became his big break.
