DETROIT -- The Tigers, held to eight runs on their just-finished six-game road trip, returned home with a relative breakout of runs without a lot of hits. Two-run homers from Niko Goodrum and Jose Iglesias powered Detroit to a 5-3 victory over Minnesota on Friday night at Comerica Park.
Though the Twins more than tripled the Tigers' hit total, 10-3, the combination of Ervin Santana walks and home runs made the hits count. JaCoby Jones' speed turned a chopper over third base into a one-out triple in the third, setting up a Mike Gerber sacrifice fly, before Goodrum haunted his old team in the fourth with his 11th homer of the year.
