DETROIT -- Niko Goodrum left in the second inning of Wednesday's game against the Astros at Comerica Park with a right quadriceps contusion after colliding in shallow left field with Christin Stewart.
Goodrum, playing shortstop, sprinted back to chase a fly ball off the bat of Evan Gattis, but Stewart was charging in from left field and made the catch for the third out, and they collided while going near full speed. Goodrum stayed on the ground while manager Ron Gardenhire and head athletic trainer Doug Teter checked on him. He eventually limped off the field and down the stairs to the clubhouse area.
