DETROIT -- When Leonys Martin arrived at spring training this year, he was trying to forget a miserable 2017 season that he blamed on trying to be something he wasn't.
Tantalized by the career-high 15 home runs he hit in 2016, Martin got away from the hitting fundamentals in 2017.
This year, Detroit Tigers manager Ron Gardenhire is trying to drive home the same message: Be yourself.
"I don't worry about him as long as he remains in that mode, we're all good," Gardenhire said. "If he starts to change a little bit and get out of what he really is, then I talk to him.
