PITTSBURGH -- If you've ever watched an interview with Detroit Tigers center fielder Leonys Martin, you've probably noticed his distinctive, high-pitched voice.
After Martin was hit in a rather delicate area in the first inning of Game 1 Wednesday, manager Ron Gardenhire couldn't resist cracking jokes.
"I didn't think his voice could get any higher, but it did," he said after the Tigers beat the Pirates in the opener of Wednesday's doubleheader.
Martin chopped the ball off of home plate and the ricochet caught him in the groin. He fell to the ground, writhing in pain.
