Dunedin, Fla. — Players like to remind folks that spring training is a process.
Michael Fulmer understands it even in his second big-league season.
“I’m happy where I’m at right now,” the 2016 American League Rookie of the Year said following Wednesday’s split-squad contest at Florida Auto Exchange Stadium, where a Tigers cast loaded with minor-leaguers, and carrying the minimum quota of celebrities, beat the Blue Jays, 5-4.
He should be pleased.
This was only Fulmer’s second start of the Grapefruit League season. And when you are 23, with orders and awareness to work carefully heading into your sophomore year in the bigs, the sort of day he had Wednesday against Toronto stuck pretty much to script.
