Former Detroit Tigers pitcher Andy Van Hekken, whose only big league win was a shutout in his debut, has signed with the New Britain Bees of the independent Atlantic League.
Van Hekken, a Holland native who spent most of the past six seasons with the Nexen Heroes of the Korean Baseball Organization, was one of four players who joined the club in an announcement Wednesday.
The 38-year-old left-hander is best remembered for his Sept. 3, 2002 debut with the Tigers when he threw a complete game shutout against the Cleveland Indians. He made five starts with the Tigers that year, went 1-3 with a 3.
