Forget 11-2 loss, the Detroit Tigers' home opener is here

CHICAGO – Miguel Cabrera sat at his locker and leaned forward with a smile.

“You are pitching today,” Cabrera said.

Detroit Tigers left-hander Matt Boyd sat a few feet away, eating breakfast at a table in the clubhouse at Guaranteed Rate Field.

“Yes,” Boyd said, nodding his head.

The Tigers shuffled their rotation because Jordan Zimmermann was sick earlier in the week. So Boyd was inserted into the rotation and got the start Thursday against the Chicago White Sox.

Cabrera started smiling.

“Woooo!” Cabrera said, shaking his hands nervously, teasing Boyd.
