Toledo’s second half slump continued on Thursday night, as the Hens were spanked 15-2 by visiting Rochester. Tyler Alexander was torched for seven earned runs on 11 hits in 5 2⁄3 innings of work. Alfred Gutierrez’s Triple-A debut was an absolute disaster, as the young righthander was lit up for eight earned runs, including three long balls, in just one inning. Tonight was the first time since July 28, 2017 that Alexander had allowed more than six earned runs in a start.
The loss dropped Toledo to 6-10 in the month of August, as they are struggling to keep their heads above water in the International League playoff chase.
