MINNEAPOLIS — Shortly after Gregory Soto arrived in the Detroit Tigers’ clubhouse on Friday afternoon, his jacket still hanging on a pink-tagged suitcase, he was approached by a familiar face.
How familiar, this man could not be sure, so the Baseball Hall of Famer asked the guy who had yet to throw a pitch in the big leagues: “Do you know who I am?”
Soto did, indeed, know who Jack Morris was.
And then came his first lesson inside a big league clubhouse.
“My advice to you,” Morris said, “The best pitch in baseball, at any level, is a first pitch strike.
