Explaining my AL MVP ballot

I waited 15 years for a chance to vote for a major award as a BBWAA ballot. As soon as I found out I had one of the MVP votes from the Detroit chapter, I thought: Why on earth did I want this?

I saw the MVP debate play out with Mike Trout and Miguel Cabrera in 2012 and 2013, then Trout and Donaldson last year. I also saw what my colleagues went through when Magglio Ordonez received two MVP votes (both from the Detroit chapter) in 2007, giving Alex Rodriguez the indignity of not being a unanimous selection (which is fun to look back on nowadays).
