DETROIT -- Surrounded by family and former teammates, Jack Morris watched with emotion as Comerica Park workers removed a drape from the stone wall in left-center field.
There, along with the names of Ty Cobb, Al Kaline and other Detroit Tigers legends, was his No. 47.
"There were ups and downs, but the desire to succeed was much stronger," Morris said from a podium set up behind the pitcher's mound. "That desire came from the support of you fans. I can't thank you enough for what you did for me."
The retirement of Morris' jersey on Sunday came nearly two decades after he threw his last pitch for the Tigers and less than a month after his induction into the National Baseball Hall of Fame.
