Early runs lift Hardy, Tigers to win over Jays

DETROIT -- JaCoby Jones' two-run triple paced a four-run second inning in support of Blaine Hardy, whose six quality innings carried the Tigers to their seventh win in nine games with a 5-2 victory over the Blue Jays on Friday night at Comerica Park.

The win moved Detroit to 27-30, within three games of .500 for the first time since May 15.

Jones' triple was one of six second-inning hits to chase Jays starter Jaime Garcia (2-4), but it was by far the most damaging, falling just beyond Kevin Pillar's reach in right-center field and bouncing to the wall as James McCann and Victor Martinez rounded the bases.
