Doug Mientkiewicz hired to manage Triple-A Toledo Mud Hens

The Detroit Tigers have hired Doug Mientkiewicz to serve as manager for the Triple-A Toledo Mud Hens in 2018, Jon Heyman of FanRag Sports reported Tuesday.

Mientkiewicz, 43, replaces Mike Rojas, whose contract was not renewed.

Mientkiewicz was born in Toledo, grew up in Florida and was drafted by the Minnesota Twins after an all-conference career at Florida State. He spent parts of 12 seasons in the big leagues, including seven with the Twins, where he played under new Tigers manager Ron Gardenhire.

After retiring in 2010, he managed the Class A (Advanced) Fort Myers Miracle (2013-14 and 2017) and the Double-A Chattanooga Lookouts (2015-2016) in the Twins system.
