LAKELAND, Fla. -- Longtime Detroit Tigers utility man and fan favorite Don Kelly is rejoining the organization as a pro scout and assistant to player development.
Kelly, 37, played for the Tigers from 2009-2014. He was most recently with the Miami Marlins.
Kelly was spotted with coaches on the field at the start of Saturday's first full-squad workout. The team confirmed his hiring shortly thereafter.
Kelly officially retired from baseball earlier this week and didn't waste time joining the Tigers, who originally drafted him out of Butler, Pa., near Pittsburgh.
