LAS VEGAS – It probably won’t happen this week. Might not even happen this month. Maybe, come early February, right fielder Nicholas Castellanos will report to Lakeland, Fla., for his seventh season with the Detroit Tigers.
But at some point between now and the July 31 non-waiver trade deadline, the Tigers are going to trade Castellanos.
As of Tuesday night, they weren’t close to that point, though general manager Al Avila, without acknowledging Castellanos by name, did acknowledge the Tigers had been discussing possible trades with several teams during the first two days of Winter Meetings.
