CHICAGO – The Tigers have placed designated hitter Victor Martinez on the 10-day disabled list with an irregular heartbeat.
It is Martinez’s second trip to the DL for such symptoms this season.
Martinez, 38, is hitting .255 with 10 home runs and 47 RBIs this season. His offensive production has severely declined this season, after hitting .289 with 27 home runs and 86 RBIs last season.
Martinez is in the third year of a four-year deal. He has roughly $21 million remaining on his contract. The second heart issue comes just a few days after cameras captured Martinez having an animated exchange with teammate Justin Verlander in the dugout after a benches-clearing episode with the Yankees.
