Detroit Tigers unveil 2019 spring training schedule

Spring has not sprung yet. There are still many months to go.

But the Detroit Tigers released their 2019 spring training schedule on Wednesday, which includes their first trip to Fort Myers, Fla. for the first time in a long time.

The Tigers will head south to play the Twins on March 11 and the Red Sox on March 12.

Next season will be the Tigers’ 83rd in Lakeland, Fla., which counts as the longest-standing relationship between a Major League team and spring training host city. Their exhibition schedule begins against Southeastern University on Feb. 23, a different collegiate opponent than in years past: Traditionally, the Tigers have played Lakeland’s home college, Florida Southern, to open the season.
