LAKELAND, Fla. — Tyson Ross’ second pitch went over the fence.
And over the first two innings in Friday afternoon’s Grapefruit League game against the New York Mets, many more pitches did not go where they were supposed to.
Ross, the veteran right-hander signed to a $5.75 million deal over the winter, struggled again in the Detroit Tigers’ 7-1 loss to the Mets, but came away thinking he had found a solution.
Ross believed he was opening up his front side during his delivery, which resulted in an erratic two innings: He allowed three runs on three hits with three walks and three wild pitches, but escaped the top of the second inning by inducing an inning-ending double play.
