Detroit Tigers' Tyler Alexander sets record by striking out nine straight Reds

Detroit Tigers pitcher Tyler Alexander still wants to be a starter.

But he is thriving in his role as a reliever, especially on Sunday at Comerica Park.

Alexander set a major league record for a reliever by striking out nine straight batters.

It also ties a Tigers record, set by starter Doug Fister on Sept. 27, 2012, against the Royals.

On May 4, 1981, Yankees reliever Ron Davis struck out eight straight against the Angels.

He entered the first game of a doubleheader in the top of the third inning, after spot-starter Rony Garcia gave up his second home run to Nicholas Castellanos.
