Detroit Tigers trying to find time for bench players

It’s a problem, but a good problem to have.

With the Detroit Tigers’ regulars at full health early this season, playing time for their bench players is hard to come by.

“It’s going to be a challenge,” manager Brad Ausmus said today. “If the regulars are healthy, it’s going to be a challenge, there’s no question.”

Tyler Collins will get his first start of the season today, in centerfield against the Pittsburgh Pirates (1 p.m., FSD, MLB Network). It will be the first time Collins has seen live pitching in 10 days.

“We can’t have these guys sitting on the bench for extended stretches and then, all of a sudden, something does happen and we’ve got to play them,” Ausmus said.
