Detroit Tigers pitcher Casey Mize tosses pitches from the mound in Lakeland, Florida on Tuesday, Feb. 19, 2019. Kirthmon Dozier, Wochit
LAKELAND, Fla. — Casey Mize came out firing in relief Friday afternoon, cruising in his first exhibition action of the spring.
He was blowing pitches by Southeastern University hitters, an easy 13-pitch third inning, when he convened with catcher Jake Rogers inside the Detroit Tigers’ dugout.
Mize, the No. 1 overall pick in last year’s MLB draft, and Rogers, considered the Tigers’ catcher of the future, will be working together for quite some time, the Tigers hope.
