The Detroit Tigers have been inactive in the major league free-agent market.
The team likely will remain so throughout the winter.
One agent who has spoke with the team since the winter meetings said recently, “I don’t believe the Tigers are going to spend any money, period.”
That could close the door on role-playing free agents in centerfield and at backup catcher. But the team continues to be active on the minor league free-agent market.
According to a person with knowledge of the situation, the Tigers will sign outfielder Juan Perez to a minor league deal, with an invitation to major league spring training.
