Detroit Tigers strong pitching wasted as bullpen blows it at Royals, 4-2

At Kauffman Stadium in Kansas City, Mo.

What happened: The Detroit Tigers lost to the Kansas City Royals, 4-2, on Friday night at Kauffman Stadium. Francisco Liriano turned in another strong performance, throwing seven-plus innings. It went for naught, though, when the Tigers bullpen blew the game in the eighth inning. Daniel Stumpf allowed two runs and Joe Jimenez allowed one. JaCoby Jones gave the Tigers the lead with a clutch two-out, two-run double half an inning earlier. That, too, went for naught. The Tigers have lost seven out of their last 10 games.

Starting off: Liriano was vintage, dominating the Royals with an economical pitch count.
