Neither figured to be in play with the Detroit Tigers this offseason, but as the time ticks off baseball’s winter calendar — teams begin reporting to spring training in less than three weeks — the possibility of the team making a sizable splash remains.
That possibility was all but discounted Thursday, when Tigers general manager Al Avila said one of those players — the enigmatic Yasiel Puig — was not considered a priority in the team’s remaining offseason plans.
