Detroit Tigers squander lead, fall to Royals, 8-5

At Comerica Park

What happened: The Detroit Tigers had a chance to reach .500, but fell to 9-11 with an 8-5 loss to the Kansas City Royals on Sunday afternoon.

Lefty Francisco Liriano's no-hit bid ended in the sixth inning on a solo home run to left by Whit Merrifeld, which cut the Tigers' lead to 2-1.

Then came a bullpen meltdown. Alex Wilson replaced Liriano with runners on the corners and one out in the sixth. Wilson gave up a walk to Paulo Orlando, then a 425-foot grand slam to right-center to Abraham Almonte.
