The decisions were scattered about – early in the game, an inning later and then another shortly thereafter – and no matter how inconclusive they might have been, they all played a part in the Detroit Tigers’ latest defeat.
They were made with good intentions: Miguel Cabrera turning toward second base and Gordon Beckham heading for home. And at least one was a no-brainer: putting the closer on the mound in a tie game at home in the 10th inning.
But these decisions – made against the backdrop of a still-struggling Tigers offense – resulted in a 5-3 loss to the Pirates on Tuesday night at Comerica Park, their third straight defeat.
