The Detroit Tigers have signed right-handed reliever Edward Mujica to a minor league contract with an invitation to major league spring training, according to a person with knowledge of the deal.
Mujica, 32, has 50 career saves, most coming during his All-Star season with the St. Louis Cardinals in 2013. He has pitched for six teams over his 10-year major league career -- the Cardinals, Cleveland Indians, San Diego Padres, Florida/Miami Marlins, Boston Red Sox and Oakland A's -- amassing a 24-28 career record and 3.85 ERA.
He did not pitch in the majors last season, splitting time between the Triple-A affiliates of the Philadelphia Phillies, Kansas City Royals and Minnesota Twins.
