The Detroit Tigers have sent left-handed reliever Derek Holland to the 10-day injured list, retroactive to Monday, with a left shoulder strain, the team announced Thursday.
To replace Holland in the bullpen, right-hander Kyle Funkhouser was recalled from the taxi squad. He is on the Triple-A Toledo roster but has traveled with the Tigers during the current nine-game road trip, which concludes Thursday with the series finale against the Boston Red Sox at Fenway Park.
Holland, 34, last pitched Saturday, providing the Tigers one scoreless inning in a 6-4 loss to the New York Yankees.
