They have been waiting to see if Jeimer Candelario could find his swing and break a lengthy slump.
But after Wednesday night’s loss, the Detroit Tigers decided it was time to do something else.
Candelario, the Tigers’ third baseman, was optioned to Triple-A Toledo after the game. He is hitting .192 this season with one home run and has struck out in 31% of his at-bats.
Still, the move was a bit jarring, in the sense that Candelario is firmly part of the team’s rebuilding plans and was expected to take a step forward in his second full season.
