LAS VEGAS — The Detroit Tigers have a new reliever in their bullpen.
With the No. 5 pick in Thursday’s 2018 MLB Rule 5 draft, the team selected right-handed reliever Reed Garrett from the Texas Rangers.
Garrett, who turns 26 in January, is coming off a strong 2018 season: He posted a 2.04 ERA between Double-A Frisco and Triple-A Round Rock, with 61 strikeouts in 61u2154innings.
Garrett served as the Frisco closer, saving 16 games.
In five minor league seasons, Reed has posted a 4.63 ERA and 1.39 WHIP. He was drafted by the Rangers in the 16th round of the 2014 MLB Draft out of Virginia Military Institute.
