LAKELAND, Fla. — It's a better topic for Detroit Tigers manager AJ Hinch to address, but the potential Opening Day starting lineup came up in a Monday morning conversation with second baseman Jonathan Schoop.
"It's pretty deep," Schoop said. "It's a deep lineup. You see some young guys in there, some veterans in there. That makes a good team, if we can contribute with each other, pass the baton and believe in each other. It's really good."
For two of the past three spring training games, Hinch has penned this batting order on the lineup card: Akil Baddoo (left field), Robbie Grossman (right field), Javier Baez (shortstop), Jeimer Candelario (third base), Miguel Cabrera (designed hitter), Schoop (second base), Riley Greene (center field), Spencer Torkelson (first base), with starting catcher Tucker Barnhart and backup catcher Dustin Garneau alternating starts in the nine hole.
