LAKELAND, Fla. — The Detroit Tigers lost to the New York Yankees, 11-7, on Monday at Publix Field at Joker Marchant Stadium, dropping to 4-5 (with two ties) in Grapefruit League play.

What happened

On the first pitch of the game, Tigers right-hander Eduardo Rodriguez fell behind on the scoreboard. Rodriguez allowed a leadoff home run to Gleyber Torres, who demolished a 92.3 mph fastball for a 415-foot opposite-field blast to right-center field.

Shortstop Javier Baez, signed by the Tigers for six years, $140 million in the offseason, made a diving catch in the sixth inning.
