Once the Triple-A season begins May 4, the Detroit Tigers plan to slide outfielder Nomar Mazara — recovering from a left abdominal strain — in the lineup for the Toledo Mud Hens.
Mazara, who turns 26 on Monday, is expected to return to the majors around May 9, general manager Al Avila said in an MLB Network Radio interview Sunday. (The team has an off-day May 10.) He sustained his injury April 14 while swinging in the fourth inning against the Houston Astros.
The Tigers placed Mazara on the 10-day injured list April 15.
