Detroit Tigers release utility man Alexi Amarista; 27 players remain

LAKELAND, Fla. — It appears that Niko Goodrum and JaCoby Jones are going to make the Detroit Tigers’ Opening Day roster.

The Tigers announced Saturday morning they granted infielder Alexi Amarista his unconditional release. The move leaves the club with 27 players remaining in major league camp.

That includes 14 pitchers; they plan to carry 12 to begin the season. Right-handed pitcher Mike Fiers, who is dealing with a lower back strain, is expected to start the season the disabled list.
