Just three days after pitching two scoreless innings in an intrasquad game, Detroit Tigers right-hander Zack Godley has been released.
The team announced the move Monday morning. Manager Ron Gardenhire hopes the early decision gives Godley, 30, enough time to land with a new ballclub. The regular season begins July 23 with a pair of games before Detroit and the rest of the teams start July 24.
"We've got young men lined up here, we've got lots of options here," Gardenhire said. "We're trying to put together a pen and all those things, and we just wanted to make sure he had an opportunity.
