On Monday, the Detroit Tigers placed right-handed closer Shane Greene on the 10-day disabled list with a right shoulder strain.
To replace Greene on the roster, the team recalled left-hander Daniel Stumpf from Triple-A Toledo.
Stumpf was at the center a controversy in which the Tigers fired pitching coach Chris Bosio for "insensitive language." Bosio told USA TODAY that the remark that led to his ouster was "spider monkey," a term he used to describe Stumpf.
Stumpf told the Free Press that he was not familiar with the term as a nickname for him.
